Islanders

Everyday objects taken out of their place and set in the sea: a spiral staircase, a ladder, a telephone booth, a horse in a rowing boat. In Insulares Saldaña reflects on living on an island (“we are island people, surrounded by water”) and on emigration, with a finish close to photorealism. Salida (Exit), the staircase climbing out of the sea, was one of the most talked-about works of 2015.
